Alex Larvin

Group Head, Risk

At university Alex studied business management, before going on to advise on mortgages and training at HSBC. 

She joined AFH in 2006 and is registered with the FCA, CF1, CF10 and CF11. As group head of Risk, Alex is responsible for developing and maintaining robust systems and controls in order to ensure that key risks are mitigated, communicating with the regulator, and the oversight of both Advice & Regulatory Support and T&C Operations at AFH. 

As part of the senior management team, Alex is also involved in the strategic development of the business. She believes that being a part of AFH is like an extension to your family.

Austin Broad

Group Head, Advice

Austin has over 15 years' experience as a financial adviser prior to joining AFH. Previously he served as district manager for Nationwide Building Society, briefly tying this with an adviser role.

Austin has been with AFH since 2007; he is a member of the board and a director of the firm. As group head of Advice, his responsibilities include the strategic development of the quality and direction of financial planning and investment advice within the business, as well as working closely with the head of Risk to develop strategic planning within the group whilst managing risks.

Austin enjoys working for a company that is committed to the financial education and development of its clients.

Barry Willis

Sales Director

Barry has been in the financial sector for over 35 years. Starting out in banking, he has held positions ranging from adviser to regional manager, for a variety of tied and independent banks and building societies.

Before joining AFH in 2011, Barry headed up financial services at a local top 10 building society. At AFH, his role includes delivering the T&C Scheme and providing sales and business support to our adviser population. He also serves as an Executive Board Committee member. Barry values working in a rapidly growing, client-centric business.

Dawn Walker-Bennett

Head of Business Development

Dawn has over 20 years’ experience within financial services and is diploma-qualified through the Chartered Insurance Institute.

She has previously worked for Old Mutual as a broker consultant and on the intermediary sales team at Gerrard Stockbrokers. As head of Business Development, Dawn is responsible for maintaining the high standard of recruits for both employed and self-employed independent financial advisers, and to support them as they are welcomed into the business. She also manages new business development through professional third-party connections.

Dawn enjoys working for a company that treats all members of its community equally and fairly.

Jon Sturgess

Group Financial Controller

During his 15-year career in the financial services industry, Jon has held positions from trainee accountant to senior audit manager, working with companies such as Baker Tilly and EY.

Jon has spent a lot of his career auditing large multinational companies, including Blackberry, Delphi Automotive and Hitachi, having completed the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualifications during this time.

With AFH since 2015, Jon’s role includes compiling financial accounts, such as year-end and half-year reporting, and the coordination of external audit. Jon values working for a company that is progressive in its approach.

Khalid Rehman

Advice Assurance Manager

Khalid began working in the financial industry upon graduating from university and has since undertaken a number of roles including life inspector, financial adviser, sales trainer and compliance manager, before joining AFH five years ago.

Part of his team’s responsibility is to provide advisers with guidance around complex cases and manage the operational aspects of the firm’s key compliance functions. Khalid enjoys being part of a highly skilled, happy and professional team, in which everyone has the opportunity to use and build their skills.

Leonid Nji

Group Head, Research

Leonid received his Master in Financial Economics at Leicester University, before joining the investment strategy and capital team at Legal & General.

Here he contributed to the fund research process, conducted the analysis of various fund strategies and monitored the performance of investment managers. He was also involved in the development and implementation of the Legal & General With Profits Fund. At AFH, Leonid leads AFH Group’s investment research function, responsible for equity research, fund research, manager selection, asset allocation and model portfolio construction across multiple platforms.

Leonid enjoys working for a business that promotes positive working relationships.

Michelle Lavoipierre

Administration Support Manager

With a degree in business and finance, Michelle began her career in financial services in Abu Dhabi, where she worked for Zurich International. Upon returning to the UK in 2013, Michelle joined AFH, leading the administration and new business functions.

She is responsible for the overall administration support we offer our financial advisers, ensuring effective mitigation of business risk through development, progression and proactive monitoring.

Michelle values being part of a team dedicated to working hard to deliver a service we are proud of.

Paul Wright

Chief Financial Officer

Paul qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG in London, before moving into the wholesale financial services sector with Exco International PLC.

Here he spent 10 years working across the London and Asia Pacific regions – a period of significant growth for the business. Since 1995, Paul has held the position of group CFO for a number of UK listed companies, including several technology companies serving the UK financial markets.

He joined AFH in 2014 and is responsible for the overall financial control and planning of AFH Group.
