From Pit to Pru to IFA - Mark eyes a rosy retirement, his clients safe with AFH

Story

Clients of one of Yorkshire’s long standing financial advisers will continue to enjoy a top-flight service, as he has sold his business to leading independent financial group AFH.

Mark Penty said:

“Having worked down the pit from leaving school (as so many young men in Barnsley did back in the day), I became "The Man from the Pru" just before the 1984 miners’ strike - which was to say the least a challenging time to start out in financial services in South Yorkshire!”

Mark was promoted several times at Prudential before joining Frizzell as an independent financial advisor in 1996. He set up his own business in 2011, specialising in presenting retirement seminars and providing investment advice to clients at and throughout retirement.

He ended up with around 300 clients, primarily in South & West Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

“As a sole adviser I decided after 35 years in financial services that the operational challenges of implementing all the new regulatory requirements are a challenge too far,” Mark added.

“The needs of my clients will clearly be better met by a larger firm. The in-house expertise and national reach of AFH means my clients will continue to be dealt with at a local level and receive a top-quality service in the future.”

AFH chief executive Alan Hudson said:

“I wish Mark all the best for a long and happy retirement. He can certainly rest assured his clients will be well looked after by the team here at AFH. We have the scale and expertise to take advantage of every development in the market, and our focus has always, like Mark’s, been on getting the best possible outcomes for every client.”

Mark is now looking to travel more and to indulge his passion for classic cars. He would be interested in hearing from anyone with a mint E-type Jag for sale – but it must be red.
