'Classic' Devon financial team joins
national group in deal worth £4.2m

A team of Devon-based financial and insurance advisers has joined national AFH Group, strengthening the national firm’s presence in Devon and Somerset.

Lyn Financial Services is well known for organising the Lyn Valley Classic, a classic and sports car event held in the picturesque villages of Lynton and Lynmouth. The event this year attracted around 5,000 visitors and raised more than £6,000 for local charities.

James Tucker has run the business since 1990, initially to serve the financial needs of his local community in Lynton and Lynmouth after a spell as the local “Man from the Pru”.

“For 4 years it was just me, but the business has grown way beyond what I ever thought possible when I started, and having met the guys at AFH it seemed right to join forces,” James explained.

“This is a great deal for Lyn’s 5,000 clients, who will receive the same service, delivered by the same advisers and staff, but with the added advantage of AFH’s back-office support and investment expertise.”

Under the deal, all 60 members of staff at Lyn Financial Services will join us at AFH, giving the group more than 200 advisers across the UK. AFH will also take over Lyn’s offices in Barnstaple, Taunton and Minehead. James will continue to work from Lynton.

As well as organising the Lyn Valley Classic, which has been running for 4 years, the company also sponsors many other local events including being a supporter of the Taunton Cricket Club.

James’ team also operates www.lifeassureonline.co.uk which offers online quotes for life and critical illness insurance and other protection products. Its services have previously been featured in WHICH? and were recently recommended on ITV’s This Morning program and Martin’s Money Saving tips with the expert Martin Lewis. It currently has around 15,000 policyholders across the UK.

AFH chief executive Alan Hudson said:

“This is a very significant deal for AFH, giving us 3 valuable hubs to increase our service to clients in the South West and West as well as increasing our presence in the still-underserved protection market.”
