Golden goal legend kicks off AFH charity football fundraiser

Story

Birmingham City legend Paul Tait will give some golden glamour to this year’s AFH charity football match, which kicks off at 1830 on Friday 13 July.

Paul Tait made history in 1995, when he scored the first-ever golden goal to decide a major tournament, in Birmingham’s 1-0 win against Carlisle United in the League Trophy final at Wembley.

Paul will officially kick off the annual staff v advisers match, which this year is at South Bromsgrove High School and will raise money for AFH’s 2018 charity, Birmingham Women’s Hospital.

Since 2006 Paul, a father of four, has devoted his time to helping as many children as possible participate in and enjoy sport in his role as head coach of Midland Soccer Coaching, which runs weekly coaching sessions for children of all footballing abilities across the Midlands.

Paul said:

“I’m delighted to be kicking off a match to raise money for such a great cause. And as a great fan of grassroots football, I’m looking forward to see the AFH teams give their best.”

Admission to the match is £2, and all proceeds will go to Birmingham Women’s Hospital.

In May a team of AFH staff raised more the £3,100 for the hospital in the Great Birmingham 10K run.
