AFH supports colleague by hitting ambitious charity target three months early

Big hearted staff at AFH Wealth Management have smashed their target of raising £24,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) three months early – and they won’t be taking the pedal off the metal anytime soon!

The charity was chosen by staff after their colleague, Millie Britton, helped her mother Claire deal with MND after being diagnosed with the condition in 2021. Sadly, Claire passed away early in 2024 as a result of the disease, which affects the brain and nerves, resulting in the body becoming weaker and weaker over time.

Generous colleagues jumped to the aid of the MNDA and have now exceeded their target with three months to spare. Now staff hope to hit £30,000 by the end of December, which would be the most the company has raised for a chosen charity in a single year.

“I'm absolutely delighted,” said Millie, who is one of the company’s IFA Executive Administrators.

“Mum would have been over the moon that we‘ve managed to raise so much for this amazing charity. It helped to fund therapy and provided equipment to make mum’s time with us more comfortable and gave us grants to help ensure my parents’ home was wheelchair friendly.

“In addition to this, it offered counselling and support to me and my children and helped us deal with the impacts of mum’s MND.”

Staff at AFH, which is one of the UK’s leading independent financial advice companies, embarked on a series of sponsored events to raise cash for the association. This included a quiz night and a ‘run 60 miles in August’ challenge, as well as a sponsored football match that raised more than £5,000.

AFH pledged to match the money raised by staff, meaning the total smashed the target by the beginning of September. Despite this, five staff members from AFH’s head office raised around £1,600 by braving the world’s fastest zipwire in September.

The daredevil team took to the 1.5km zipwire, which saw them 100mph as they soared over Penrhyn Quarry in Snowdonia, Wales.  One of those taking part was Madelin Cull, IFA Senior Administrator at AFH, who said the day was an incredible experience.

“We had such a good day taking part in the Velocity zipwire,” she added.

“All of us enjoyed the experience and would definitely do it again! It is great that we did it for such a good cause too, and hope the money raised really makes a difference to those with MND.”
